May 23, 2025 Turng Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry Written By: Caitlin Scott Departments: Mechanical Engineering Categories: Faculty|Research Lih-Sheng (Tom) Turng We are delighted to share that Mechanical Engineering Professor Lih-Sheng (Tom) Turng has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), a prestigious honor that recognizes his exceptional contributions to the chemical sciences. Professor Turng and his colleagues conduct transformative research across a wide range of polymer processing and biomedical areas. He is the most published faculty member in the ME department, with more than 320 refereed journal papers and over 230 conference papers to his name. Not only is his research group prolific, but his work is also consistently high in quality – evidenced by 14 Best Paper/Poster awards and 24 patents and patent applications. In 2009, Professor Turng was selected to establish and lead the Tissue Engineering and Nanomedicine (BIONATES) Research Group at the newly established Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID). The group was tasked with bridging engineering and life sciences to develop cell- and tissue-based therapeutic products, demonstrating his commitment to interdisciplinary innovation. Election to FRSC status reflects Professor Turng’s sustained excellence, leadership, and impact in the field. A highly productive and respected scholar, he continues to drive the development of innovative processes, high-performance materials, and sustainable products that contribute to the well-being of society.
